Group Work

Immigrant Women’s Support Service regularly holds a Women’s Group for women from non-English speaking backgrounds who have experienced sexual and/or domestic violence. Women’s Group is available to women who are accessing the Sexual and/or Domestic Violence Program/s at IWSS and is held regularly. Day care is always provided if needed. Contact Us

Women’s Group at IWSS is an on-going open group. This means that you can come to the sessions that look interesting to you and miss the sessions that you cannot or don’t want to attend. Although the purpose of the group is to promote the health, well-being and empowerment of NESB women affected by sexual and domestic violence it is not intended as a therapeutic support group. This means that women attending Women’s Group do not have to focus on their violent experiences and will not be asked to share their experiences of violence with the rest of the group. Sometimes the group work will be about providing information on issues that are important to women accessing IWSS, addressing such topics as parenting or women’s health. Other times women’s group will be about supporting a woman’s physical and emotional health through the facilitation of activities such as Yoga or meditation. Still other times Women’s Group at IWSS is simply about relaxing and having some fun. Women’s Group is always about meeting new people and breaking down feelings of isolation and loneliness.
