Support Services
The Domestic Violence Program provides support services to women and their children from NESB who have experienced domestic violence perpetrated by an intimate partner or spouse.
The Domestic Violence Program recognises that the impact of violence against women and children is often multiple and varied and that there may be physical, emotional, psychological, social, legal, financial and political repercussions. The Domestic Violence Program attempts to meet the diverse needs of women and children who have experienced domestic violence.
If you are experiencing domestic violence and are from a non-English background we can support you with:
- A safe space to talk about what is happening and to discuss options available to you. Any information you share with workers is ‘confidential’ and is not discussed with any other person or service without your consent. There are some limits to confidentiality which will be fully explained to you.
- Information to assist you to make informed decisions. Workers can provide you with relevant information and support your decisions without pressure or judgements.
- Assistance to access short, medium and long term accommodation/housing for you and your children that is safe and secure.
- Assistance to access Centrelink payments and/or emergency relief.
- Assistance to access health services.
- Support and advocacy in negotiating the legal system. Workers can assist you to access legal advice and representation for:
- Domestic Violence Protection Orders;
- Child Residence and Contact;
- Child Support;
- Property Settlement;
- Divorce;
- Immigration matters; and
- Other legal matters.
- Information regarding education and employment.
- Telephone contact and support if you live in remote and rural areas.
- IWSS uses professional Interpreters when required, and employs bicultural/bilingual workers.
