Welcome to the Domestic Violence Program of the Immigrant Women’s Support Service.
The Domestic Violence Program provides a timely and culturally appropriate response to women and their children from non-English speaking backgrounds (NESB) who are experiencing domestic violence perpetrated by a partner or spouse.
The Domestic Violence Program operates Monday - Friday from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. There are times when the answering machine is on due to staff meetings or training. If you leave your name and a safe contact telephone number a Crisis Support Worker will return your call.
What is Domestic Violence?
Domestic Violence is a term used to describe any form of violence or abuse experienced by a person that is committed by their spouse or intimate partner. For more information about domestic violence click on DV Information.
The Domestic Violence Program recognises that women and children have the right to live in safety and security and access services that will assist them to live independently, free from violence. The Domestic Violence Program attempts to meet the diverse needs of women and their children who have experienced domestic and/or sexual violence. All IWSS services are provided to women from NESB who are affected by violence
FREE OF COST.
For women accessing IWSS services free professional interpreting services will be provided where required.
Some professional training to other service providers may have a nominal fee to cover basic costs of training provision.
IWSS seeks to work collaboratively with other organisations, individuals, and community groups to improve access to, and quality of, services to women from NESB.
IWSS seeks to raise understanding and awareness of the nature of domestic and sexual violence and their impact on women from NESB.
The Domestic Violence Program is funded through the Supported Accommodation Assistance Program (SAAP) of the Department of Communities.
